A FILOSOFIA POLÍTICA DA ESCOLA AUSTRÍACA

A filosofia política da Escola Austríaca deve ser vista como uma tentativa de
compreender e explicar a história e as instituições sociais à luz dos limites naturais ao
conhecimento humano. Como escreveu o filósofo italiano Raimondo Cubeddu, professor em
Pisa, “a história e as instituições sociais aparecem frequentemente como produtos das ações
humanas individuais, voltadas para a consecução de fins subjetivos” (The Philosophy of the
Austrian School, Routledge, London-New York, 1993, p. X do Prefácio). Portanto, Menger,
Mises, Hayek e os demais austríacos não foram apenas economistas que mergulharam no mundo
da política, ou sonhadores de um mundo melhor de cunho utópico, mas pensadores que
elaboraram uma teoria do melhor regime baseada em uma concepção da ação humana e da
natureza da sociedade.

WASHINGTON – Is marriage becoming obsolete?
As families gather for Thanksgiving this year, nearly one in three American children is living with a parent who is divorced, separated or never-married. More people are accepting the view that wedding bells aren't needed to have a family.
A study by the Pew Research Center, in association with Time magazine, highlights rapidly changing notions of the American family. And the Census Bureau, too, is planning to incorporate broader definitions of family when measuring poverty, a shift caused partly by recent jumps in unmarried couples living together.
About 29 percent of children under 18 now live with a parent or parents who are unwed or no longer married, a fivefold increase from 1960, according to the Pew report being released Thursday. Broken down further, about 15 percent have parents who are divorced or separated and 14 percent who were never married. Within those two groups, a sizable chunk — 6 percent — have parents who are live-in couples who opted to raise kids together without getting married....

CALL FOR PAPERS
The Austrian Scholars Conference is the international, interdisciplinary meeting of the Austrian School, and for scholars interested or working in this intellectual tradition, it is the event of the year. The director of the conference is Joseph Salerno of Pace University.
Over the course of three full days, the Austrian Scholars Conference offers eighty plus presentations on economics, history, philosophy, and the humanities, in addition to named lectures by the leaders in the field. It combines all the opportunities of a professional meeting, with the added attraction of hearing and presenting new and innovative research, engaging in vigorous debate, and interacting with like-minded scholars who share research interests.
Papers and panels cover a wide range of fields that impact on the Austrian paradigm, including: monetary theory; international trade; money and banking; methodology; history of thought; economic history; business cycles; geography; interventionism; literature; political philosophy; philosophy of science; society, culture, and religion; business regulation; environmental political economy; and history and theory of war.

Three monks were walking back from a Dharma teaching with their Master. As they arrived back
at their village they noticed a flag on a post, fluttering in the wind. The first student looks up says,
"I see a flag flapping." The next student looks up and, trying to out-do the first, says, "No, I see
the wind flapping." The third student even more sure of his superior understanding, glances up
and says, "I see the mind flapping."
Then their Master looks up and says, "And I see mouths flapping!"

XI Congresso Luso-Afro-Brasileiro de Ciências Sociais
CHAMADA PARA INSCRIÇÕES DE GRUPOS DE TRABALHO
Diversidades e (des)igualdades é o tema que orientará os debates do XI Congresso Luso-Afro-Brasileiro de Ciências Sociais, a ser realizado na Universidade Federal da Bahia, em Salvador, de 07 a 10 de agosto de 2011. Durante o evento, especialistas em Ciências Sociais e Humanidades de diversos países - especialmente Angola, Moçambique, Cabo Verde, Guiné-Bissau, São Tomé e Príncipe, Portugal e Brasil - estarão reunidos para debater a diversidade e a complexidade de suas sociedades, privilegiando um enfoque comparativo e confronto de diferentes perspectivas teóricas e metodológicas.
Nesse momento encontram-se abertas as inscrições para Grupos de Trabalho. Cada proposta poderá ser feita por grupo de  dois a quatro pesquisadores doutores, oriundos de, pelo menos, duas instituições diferentes (e, de preferência, de países diferentes). Prazo: até 30/11/2010
Não teremos novas inscrições para Mesas Coordenadas. O Comitê Científico avaliará as Mesas que já foram inscritas e divulgará os resultados. Os proponentes e participantes das Mesas selecionadas serão convidados a se inscreverem no novo site do Congresso.

"Uma das características epistemológicas mais importantes da Escola Austríaca de Economia, que reflete com clareza um núcleo de identidades básicas, é a convicção de que o conhecimento humano apresenta um inevitável componente de indeterminação e deimprevisibilidade. A consequência disso é que o futuro não apenas é difícil de ser previsto, mas, principalmente, é essencialmente imprevisível e, em função dessa inescapável incerteza, todas asações humanas intencionais levadas a cabo produzem efeitos involuntários, que não podem ser calculados, previstos ou esperados e que tanto podem gerar benefícios não esperados como
produzir custos não desejados."
