"Politics and the English Language" (1946) is an essay by George Orwell that focuses on political language. Orwell believed that the language used in politics was necessarily vague or meaningless because it was intended to hide the truth rather than express it. We can't help but wonder what Orwell would have made of today's political goings on - the lies, deceit, obfuscation, insincerity and manoeuvring?
