Um Congolês e sua filha mostram as mãos que foram amputadas por escravizadores Belgas. A família teve uma das mãos decepadas pois não conseguiram atingir a cota de algodão mensal, estipulada pelos colonizadores.

Estima-se que 10 milhões de Congoleses foram mortos durante os anos em que o país foi propriedade privada de Leopoldo II , monarca Belga.

O processo de exploração do Congo pelo país Europeu é considerado um dos maiores genocídios da história da humanidade, talvez desconhecido de muitos, por se tratar de um povo pobre e negro.

No Congo Belga, homens e mulheres eram escravizados e submetidos a até 18 horas de trabalhos diárias, sofriam castigos quando não cumpriam as cotas estipuladas pelos agentes Belgas, as punições iam de amputação de membros a execuções a sangue frio.

Os Congoleses contavam apenas com sua resistência e ajudas humanitárias vindas de missionários Europeus. Dizimados pela força Belga, que possuía armas e exército com tecnologia superior, as diversas tribos que habitavam a região foram dizimadas ou escravizadas pelo brancos Europeus.
