War on poverty

"It turns out that 51 years after Lyndon Johnson declared a federal "War on Poverty," the whole thing was a bust, just as thinking people were vilified for predicting. I suspect that many who promoted this "war" did so then for the same reason their "progressive" comrades continue to do so today, in spite of what it's done to the poor: It buys votes. What a morally reprehensible thing to do to a country and a people--ruin them for short-term political gain! This is one of many reasons why the welfare state is as anti-social as any other "legal" behavior I can think of." See http://tinyurl.com/mvpcsg8.
