For those interested in the history and reality of the Soviet Gulag, may I recommend a documentary that is available on Amazon Video prime, called “Cannibal Island,” which tells the story of about 6,000 people rounded up in Moscow and Leningrad in 1933 as part of Stalin’s central plans for using slave labor in the far reaches of the Soviet Union, and their terrible fate of hardship, starvation and death that included people eating each other to try to stay alive.
It is based on a book from several years ago, with the same name. I wrote a review of the book shortly after it was published, and here is the link to my review:
