These are not internships in the regular sense. The Mises Institute permits and expects its Fellows to pursue serious intellectual work under the direct guidance of faculty in residence, including academic vice president Joseph Salerno . You will develop an expertise in a field that would not be cultivated in a classroom setting, deeply read literature otherwise unavailable, and take advantage of a window of opportunity for serious investigation and reflection. During the typical academic career, such opportunities are extremely rare.
For anyone working in the fields of Austrian economics and libertarian political theory, this combination of intellectual stimulation and social opportunity create the perfect environment for productive academic work. Many former Fellows (such as Robert Murphy and Tom Woods) have become professors and writers and have otherwise ended up having a huge influence in the world of ideas.
