My interviewee is Jerry Gaus, professor of philosophy at the University of Arizona. Gary Gutting: Many people think the greatest obstacle to solving our national problems is the large ideological gap between the right and the left. They think that to make any significant progress, we need a shared vision of what sort of society we want. Your work on the diversity of values underlying political debates seems to challenge this view. Could you give our readers a basic sketch of your position?
